HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Mark Dorris scored 15 points to lead Marshall past UAB 62-57 on Saturday night.

With Marshall's leading scorer, Markel Humphrey, sidelined with a right heel injury, other players stepped in for the Thundering Herd.

Darryl Merthie added 12 points, Tyler Wilkerson scored 11 and Matt Walls had 10 for Marshall (10-6, 2-2 Conference USA), which broke a season-high two-game losing streak.

Marshall trailed by one at halftime but took the lead for good, 30-29, on a Wilkerson jumper with 16:40 left in the game.

Merthie's basket finished an 8-0 run and gave Marshall its largest lead, 46-37, with 6:46 remaining. UAB (12-6, 2-1) scored the next eight points but never retook the lead.

Walls hit 3-pointers 1:15 apart to keep Marshall ahead and the Thundering Herd made 5-of-8 free throws in the final minute.

Robert Vaden scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half for UAB.

Marshall shot 50 percent from the field in the second half to UAB's 33 percent and outrebounded the Blazers 42-31.
