HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Despite out-shooting Conference USA rival, UTEP, 36-to-10, the Marshall University women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to the Miners, Friday evening at Sam Hood Field. The Thundering Herd falls to 5-6-3 overall, 3-4-0 in conference, while UTEP improves to 11-4-1 on the season, 4-2-1 in league play.

"This was the highest match shot count this season," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "But if you can't capitalize on the chances, it is a disappointing result."

The Miners improved its all-time series lead over the Herd to 3-0, dating back to the 2005 season.

Just 35 seconds into first half play, UTEP's Chelsea Winbush beat the Herd defense and drilled her fourth goal of the season to the back left of the net to put UTEP ahead, 1-0.

The Miners would score its finishing goal at the 44:32 mark as Jo Radcliffe notched her second goal of the season from a Winbush pass.

"We had the urgency to win but we weren't pressing enough," Coach Long continued. "UTEP really took advantage of its shots and opportunities tonight."

Junior forward Molly Snead (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore forward Missy Gordon (Carmel, Ind.) led the Herd with six shots, two placed on goal apiece.

Sophomore forward Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) also notched five shots, with one on goal, while senior forward Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) registered five shots.

Sophomore midfielder Marisa Leconte (Greer, S.C.) had five shots, with two placed on goal.

Marshall took 12 shots on goal, while UTEP had five.

Junior co-captain Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) tallied three saves, while UTEP's Chandra Morden had 12 saves.

"We have to clean a few things up and refocus before Sunday's match," Coach Long added. "The team has to think positive and keep creating chances because we will face a good team Sunday."

Marshall will close-out its four-match home stand against C-USA foe, Colorado College, Sunday afternoon at Sam Hood Field, with kick-off set for noon. The Tigers enter the match 10-4-2 overall, 4-2-1 in conference, after a 0-0 draw with East Carolina, Friday evening in Greenville, N.C.

Colorado College leads the all-time series with Marshall, 2-0, dating back to 2005. In the most recent meeting, the Tigers shut-out the Herd, 7-0, last season at Stewart Field.

GameTracker will be available for Sunday's contest by clicking the Marshall women's soccer schedule.

Admission to Sam Hood Field is free.
