IRVING, Texas - Marshall University senior Erin Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) was selected to the Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday. The 2008 women's soccer awards were voted upon by the sports information directors from each member institution.
The 2008 C-USA postseason honor is the third consecutive accolade for the senior. Johnson joined 12 other student-athletes on first team.
"Erin's success in the classroom comes as no surprise," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "Her efforts in the classroom are as inspiring as her play on the field."
Johnson is a pre-med major and holds a 3.86 cumulative grade point average. She plans to attend medical school after graduation.
The Thundering Herd player also earned her first ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Team accolade, as announced by CoSIDA last week.
The third-year co-captain has an impressive resume throughout her years with the Herd. Johnson has 79 appearances, which puts her first on the program's all-time career matches played list. With 66 starts in her career, Johnson is tied for fifth with two other former Marshall players on the program's all-time matches started list.
Johnson had four shots, with three placed on goal in her 18 starts in 2008.
"She works extremely hard in both aspects of her college life, and I am thrilled that she has been recognized by the conference," Coach Long added.
Off the field, Johnson is a two-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal (2006 and 2007) and was named to the 2006 and 2007 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
