HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University women's soccer head coach Kevin Long announced that Scott Letts has accepted the position of assistant coach for women's soccer. Letts has served as a graduate assistant coach for the Thundering Herd since the 2007 season.

"I feel very fortunate to be a part of a very bright future with Marshall Women's soccer and look to assist in taking the program to the next level with Kevin," Letts said. "It is a great honor to be a part of Marshall's coaching staff. Hopefully we can build on the success from this last campaign with the current crop of talent."

Recently, Letts received his State Goalkeeper License and National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

In 2008, Letts represented Marshall when he traveled to Belize City, Belize with three other Division I assistants to coach local children in a soccer camp that took place June 27-July 4. The coaches worked with an organization named Peacework, while Letts personally coached 140 young athletes. Three other women's soccer assistant coaches headed to Belize to assist with the camp, which included Virginia Tech's Matt Gwilliam, Western Michigan's Suzie Grech, and Grand Valley State's Erica Demers. After completion, the coaches and Peacework donated all the soccer gear back to the young campers.

From 2003-2006, Letts was a four-year performer on the Marshall's men's soccer team as a central defender and was a captain and four-year starter. Letts also competed overseas, playing for Great Britain in the World Student Games.

Prior to playing for the Marshall men's soccer program, Letts participated in numerous soccer competitions. He won the Nottingham County Cup in 1998, while serving as team captain. In 1997 and 1998, Letts was a four-time Player of the Year recipient. He was a member and captain on the Nottingham County and South Notts County teams from 1996-2000. Lastly, until the age of 16, Letts played at the Nottingham Forest Academy.

Professionally, Letts has played for the Rotherham United Football Club and Chesterfield Football Club as a central defender. Also as a central defender, Letts played for the Tacoma Football Club and West Virginia Chaos Soccer Club.

"Scott's addition to the staff provides some long awaited stability to the program," Coach Long added. "He clearly has deserved the move from graduate assistant to assistant coach based on his soccer knowledge and his incredible involvement with our recruiting efforts. I think this is a great day for Marshall women's soccer!"

Letts, a native of Nottingham, England, holds a bachelor's degree in sports management and marketing from Marshall University (2007). He will also be in his final semester of graduate school at Marshall with an expected spring 2009 graduation in adult technical education (Masters of Science).

Letts, as a graduate assistant coach, has helped lead the Herd to a combined 9-23-5 overall record and 4-15-1 mark in Conference USA play in the past two seasons.
