Women's Tennis Hosts Pittsburgh and Cincinnati on Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University's tennis team will begin its six-game home voyage when it plays host to the University of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati on Saturday at the Huntington Tennis Club. The Thundering Herd (6-2) will face Pittsburgh (1-1) at 12 p.m. followed by the Bearcats (2-5) at 5 p.m.

The Herd (55th) leads the all-time series against both the Panthers, 9-0, and the Bearcats, 10-1.

"We are looking forward to the weekend coming off a three weekend road trip," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "We hope to have a good crowd of supporters."

No. 19 Kellie Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) continued to an 8-0 singles record so far this season at the number one spot with straight-set victories over Penn State's Jenny Shular, 6-3, 6-1, and Yale's Janet Kim, 6-3, 6-0, last weekend.

Also for the Herd, Karolina Soor's (Lindesberg, Sweden) record stands at 4-4 in singles, Isabell Raich (Klaus, Austria) at 5-3, Jeanne Schwartz (West Palm Beach, Fla.) is at 5-3, Thaddea Lock (Bristol, England) is 3-4 at the number five, Yulia Kashelkina (Moscow, Russia) at 4-2, and Jessica Keener (Reston, Va.) 2-1 in singles competition.

The 15th-ranked duo of Schmitt and Soor remained undefeated at the number one doubles position with wins over Penn State's Shular and Sarah Lotto, 8-7, and Yale's No. 50 Lauren Ritz and Lindsay Clark, 9-8. The pair stands at 8-0 so far this season.

Raich and Lock hold a 4-3 record at the two spot while Keener and Kashelkina's record stands at 5-2 at the number three so far this season.

The Herd defeated the Panthers, 5-2, and the Bearcats, 7-0, in 2007.
