HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University volleyball head coach Mitch Jacobs recently announced the addition of LaPorte, Ind. native, Jessica Dhoore to the Thundering Herd for the 2008 season.

The 5-foot-4-inch senior attends LaPorte High School and has been playing volleyball since middle school.

"With Jessica Dhoore, we're getting a player with never-ending energy and an incredible natural instinct for the libero position," Jacobs said. "She is extremely strong and quick and reads the game better than most players already into their collegiate careers."

Dhoore started on the varsity squad as a freshman and helped lead her team to a 24-11 record in 2004. Following her first season, Dhoore's squad was named sectional champions, regional champions and earned the Duneland Conference Title each of the next three years, and posted a 30-7 overall record during her sophomore and junior years.

Among other accomplishments, Dhoore was named to the Junior Olympics All-Tournament Team at the 2007 national championships.

"Dhoore will help us stabilize our ball control with her ability to pick balls off the floor," Jacobs added. "She and Taylor Tanner will make a good freshman, senior duo for us this season."

Dhoore made the "Top Frosh 59" list for top high school freshman in 2004, and was listed as one of the "Top Senior Aces 2008" following her senior season.

Dhoore started playing club volleyball at the age of 12. She attended the Dunes Club National Tournament six years in a row, (not including this year as a member of the 18's team). Her teams were named Dunes Club National Champions in 2006 and 2007.

"The state of Indiana has been very good to the Herd volleyball program," Jacobs stated. "Looking at players like Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.), Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.), we are really excited to have her."

Outside of volleyball, Dhoore has been a member of LaPorte's French and 4-H clubs, participated in volunteer community work, and has taken piano and guitar lessons.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Dhoore loves to read and write and intends to major in Journalism upon her arrival to Marshall.
