BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Marshall University's women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament runner-up, Bowling Green State University, Sunday afternoon, at a windy Cochrane Field. The Thundering Herd fell to 2-2-2 while the Falcons improved to 3-2-2 so far this season.

"I am disappointed with our Ohio trip," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "But we learned we have to be more competitive the rest of the season."

The brown and orange went up early after a converted penalty kick by junior Colleen Kordan at the 3:09 mark. BSGU took a 2-0 lead with Katie Stephenson's 56th minute goal from a Kaitlyn Kobe pass. The Falcons closed the match with just under 18 minutes left from a Corbie Yee goal. Megan Amann and Meagan Moran assisted on the final goal.

"We can not give up three goals on only four shots on goal," Coach Long continued. "This is not a step backward but rather a learning experience for the rest of the season."

Despite the loss, the Herd out shot the Falcons 16-to-9. Both teams took four shots on goal.

Freshman Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa.) tallied four shots, two on goal. The midfielder has 12 shots and six on goal so far this season.

Senior Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) improved her season shots to 14 with five shots on goal after her four shots, with one on goal against the Falcons.

Forward Molly Snead (Cincinnati, Ohio) had two shots, one on goal. The junior has taken 14 shots with 10 on goal so far this season.

Sophomore forward Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) notched two shots and so far has 13 shots with six being on goal this season.

The Falcons improved its all-time series lead over the Herd to 5-1-2 with the first meeting dating back to 1998.

"We are going to regroup for next weekend's matches against Murray State and Ohio," Coach Long added.

The Herd will travel to Murray, Ky. with a 2-2 away record to face non-conference foe Murray State University (3-4), Friday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at Cutchin Field. Then Marshall meets Ohio University (1-4) Sunday, Sept. 21 at Chessa Field with kick-off set for 1 p.m.
