MURRAY, Ky. - Marshall University's women's soccer team took its third tie of the season after a 2-2 double overtime draw with Murray State University, Friday afternoon, at Cutchin Field. The Thundering Herd advanced to 2-2-3 while the Racers are 4-4-1 so far this season.

"We played much better defensively and offensively today," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "The match was very exciting between both teams."

Murray's Katie Wilson headed in the match's first goal in the 9th minute from a 30 yard pass from Vern. Pribyslavska.

The Herd was led by sophomore Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) with both goals of the match. The forward drilled her first goal from the top center of the box in the 20th minute from an Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa.) pass.

The Herd duo took the lead seven minutes later after a right side cross from DeSumma was deflected in by Duncan.

"Duncan and DeSumma were efficient on the offensive side of the ball," Coach Long continued.

However, the Herd's lead fell as Sophie Hargreaves converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

Senior Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) registered four shots, with three being on goal.

The Racers outshot the Herd 18-to-10, with the Herd taking eight on goal. The Racers tallied nine shots on goal.

"It is frustrating to give up a lead on a penalty kick," Coach Long said. "But it is the first-time this season we've came back with two quick goals."

Co-captain keeper Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) had seven saves, while the Racer's Tara Isbell notched seven saves in the draw.

Friday afternoon's match against Murray was a first meeting between the schools.

"We need to get a win against Ohio Sunday so we can have a positive momentum going into conference play," Coach Long added.

Marshall will travel to Athens, Ohio to meet Ohio University (1-5) Sunday at Chessa Field with kick-off set for 1 p.m. Sunday's match against Ohio dates back to 1998. The Bobcats lead the all-time series over the Herd, 7-0, with the most recent meeting in 2004, where Ohio took a 3-0 advantage at Sam Hood Field.

The Herd will open Conference USA action on the road against the University of Houston, Friday, Sept. 26, and Rice University, Sunday, Sept. 28.
