Final Stats

DAYTON, Ohio - Marshall men's soccer was able to score early but it would be Butler that scored last to claim victory Sunday at the Dayton Flyer Courtyard by Marriott Tournament.

The Thundering Herd (0-7) scored in the 15th minute when junior Dustin Dawes (Nashville, Tenn.) scored his first goal as a member of the team with an assist to freshman Dalton Hadlock (Carthage, N.C.).

The Bulldogs would respond ten minutes before the half when Kyle Pateros got a ball past senior goalkeeper Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.). In the game, Walter finished with seven saves.

Butler would take the lead in the second half off a Frank Patano goal but Marshall would respond two minutes later when senior Jira Cooley (Seattle, Wash.) received a drop pass from sophomore Sammy Boateng (Acura, Ghana).

With the game locked at two a piece, the Bulldogs would take the lead for good off of a throw in from Kyle Vondenbenken to Patano for his second goal of the game.

Marshall will now prepare for a three-game home stand which opens with Bowling Green Saturday Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and Gametracker will be available.
