Volleyball Set To Host Morehead State, Tuesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team will host Morehead State in a non-conference match, Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall enters Tuesday's action with a 4-2 overall record while Morehead State comes to Huntington with a three-match winning streak and 6-1 record on the season.
Morehead State leads the all-time series 41-15, but the Herd completed a three-set sweep of the Eagles on Sept. 10, 2005 in the last meeting between the two squads.
Marshall is coming off a 2-1 finish at the Marshall Thunder Invitational. The Herd defeated Virginia Tech 3-2 in its first home contest of the 2008 season. Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio), Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas), and Jalicia Ross (Bank Village, Trinidad), each amassed 13 kills against the Hokies. Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) directed the Herd attack, delivering a match-high 40 assists, while Jessica Dhoore (LaPorte, Ind.) totaled 13 digs.
In the Herd's second contest, a 3-1 victory over ETSU, Sullivan was the offensive leader with 14 kills. Fleming again dished out 40 assists to lead all setters in the contest and she added nine digs in the match. Megan Carlson (Andover, Minn.) and Dhoore dug 10 balls apiece against the Buccaneers.
Marshall lost a 3-0 decision to Western Kentucky, who finished unblemished in the tournament to remain unbeaten on the season. Fleming was the highlight for the Herd, as she registered a match-best 27 assists. Carlson and Elizabeth Herman (Dunwoody, Ga.) totaled eight kills apiece to lead the Herd. Herman and Taylor Tanner (Union, Ky.), who finished with 20 digs (including nine against Western Kentucky) earned all-tournament team honors.
Sullivan has now collected 78 kills on the season, while Fleming has totaled 227 assists for the Herd. Ross has accumulated 45 total kills and is swinging at a team-best .363 (45 K, 12 E, 91 TA) percentage.
Morehead State is fresh off a perfect showing at the Winthrop Classic, sweeping both NC Central and host Winthrop, while taking a 3-1 decision against West Virginia.
Kristina Schoo earned tournament MVP honors for the Eagles, as she recorded 13, 26, and 21 digs respectively. All were match-highs. Schoo's 129 digs leads the team.
Kaitlin Craven leads Morehead State with 84 kills on the season, including a 13-kill and match-best effort against West Virginia this past weekend.
The Eagles' Katelyn Barbour leads the team with 167 assists, while Kirstie Brangers has dished out 116 helpers on the year. Barbour totaled 35 against the Mountaineers and added 21 against NC Central and 20 against Winthrop, while Brangers amassed 15, 13, and 16 assists respectively.

Following its match against Morehead State, Marshall will travel to Morgantown, W.Va. for a showdown with in-state rival West Virginia, Friday, Sept. 12. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
