HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University softball team had three players named to the NFCA Midest Region First Team announced Thursday.

Senior Joscelyn Bitner (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned an outfielder spot while junior Caitlyn Jackson (Ontario, Calif.) was named to the Utility/Pitcher position and sophomore Melanie Stoehr (Tacoma, Wash.) landed as Utility/Non-Pitcher.

In her last season with the Thundering Herd, Bitner was second on the team with a .367 average and named to the C-USA All-Conference Second Team. She finished the year ranked 13th in sacrifice hits per game with 19 on the season.

"I'm so pleased to see J.J. receive this honor," head coach Shonda Stanton said. "She is an incredible example of perseverance and the value of commitment for our younger players."

Jackson, who was named to the C-USA All-Tournament team, picked up her second honors from the NFCA as she was named to the second team last season.

As a junior, she only struck out five times ranking her fifth in the country in toughest to strike out. Jackson started off the season with an 11-game hitting streak finishing the year with a .325 average and 27 RBIs.

Stoehr led the team in 2009 with a .370 batting average and six home runs with a team best 35 RBIs. She was also tied for the team led in doubles with 10 while boasting a .593 slugging percentage.

"It is great to see Melanie's work ethic and contributions to this team be rewarded and this is another great honor for Caitlyn," Stanton added. "Melanie and Caitlyn can be a dominate force for us next season in the heart of our line-up."
