Fleming Named to Conference USA Preseason Volleyball Team

IRVING, Texas - Elizabeth Fleming was named to the Conference USA preseason volleyball team, voted by the league's 12 head coaches, announced by conference officials on Wednesday.
A native of South Bend, Ind., Fleming is a two-time preseason C-USA team selection. The junior setter finished third in conference action in assists per set (10.70) and led the team with 1,124 helpers last season. She was also named to the C-USA All-Academic and ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II second team.
Joining Fleming on the 12 player preseason list includes co-C-USA Preseason Players of the Year in Houston's middle blocker Lucy Charuk and Rice's setter Meredith Schamun. Rice added three more players to the squad in Natalie Bogan (middle blocker), Tracey Lam (libero) and Ashleigh McCord (outside hitter).
Tulane was the other C-USA member to place multiple players on the preseason team in senior Jenn Miller (libero) and sophomore Visnja Djurdjavic (outside hitter).
The 2009 season gets underway August 28 with all 12 teams in tournament action. Rice will serve as hosts to this year's C-USA Volleyball Championship set for Nov. 20-22 inside the Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. The top eight teams will advance to tournament action.
