Schiffbauer Named Conference USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Marshall University cross country standout Matt Schiffbauer (Morgantown, W.Va.) was named as this weeks Conference USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Schiffbauer finished second overall at the Greensboro Invitational this past weekend and led the Herd to a second place team finish. He finished the 8K course in a time of 25.29.3.

In three races so far this year, the sophomore has yet to finish outside the top 10. He placed seventh in the opening meet of the season at the EKU Invitational, and was then sixth at the Mel Brodt Invitational two weeks ago.

This is Schiffbauer's first Athlete of the Week accolade of his career.

Freshman Heather Olson of Rice University was the female recipient of C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Schiffbauer and the men's and women's cross country team will take next weekend off, then hit the trails at the Furman Invitational in Greensville, S.C. on Oct. 10.
