RADFORD, Va.- Marshall University's Molly Snead scored the game-winner for the second straight match as the Thundering Herd beat Radford University 2-0 in Sunday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer match at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.

MU tallies its fifth straight win to remain undefeated on the season and is off to its best start in school history at 5-0. The Highlanders lost their second straight and fall to 2-2 on the season.

Goalkeeper Liz Orton (Ft. Collins, Colo.) and the Herd have yet to allow a goal this season and pick up their fifth consecutive shutout.

"If you would have told me last year that we would start this season off with five shutouts I would have definitely questioned you," Marshall Head Coach Kevin Long said of a team that allowed 38 goals last season.

The match remained scoreless after 45 minutes of play but Marshall struck just 1:43 into the second half and never looked back. Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa.) registered her first of two assists on the day when her cross found teammate Snead in the box. Snead was able to place a header past Highlanders goalkeeper Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio) to earn her fifth career game winning goal. She is now tied for second with Lindsay Jayjack on Marshall's career list.

Freshman Sarah Vinson scored her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute off a DeSumma corner kick to add some insurance for the Herd.

Melony Davis (Ashburn, Va.) led Radford with three shots on the day.

MU outshot the defending Big South Champions 14-6, including 7-3 in shots on goal.

"We were eager to play them, they are a well coached team and are defending conference champions," Long said. "We wanted to see what we could do against them and I am very pleased with the 2-0 victory."

The Herd returns to action on Sunday September 13, when it hosts Ohio University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
