HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - No. 66 Marshall University women's tennis team takes the court for its first match of the 2010 spring season as the Herd plays host to Morehead State on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 23, at the Huntington Tennis Club.
Marshall, coming off a fantastic fall season, looks to improve upon a 14-11 record of a season ago. MU received strong performances from all eight girls this fall, highlighted by winning every flight in both singles and doubles at the Hokie Fall Invitational.
The Herd is well represented in the preseason ITA National and Regional rankings. Junior Michaela Kissell is ranked No. 35 in the country for singles and is the highest ranked player in Conference USA. The duo of Kissell and freshman Dominika Zaprazna is No. 14 in the doubles national rankings.
The Atlantic Region has Kissell as the fourth-ranked player, Catherine Kellner as No. 10, Zaprazna ranked fifteenth and Isabell Raich at No. 19. The Herd pairing of Kissell and Zaprazna is the top-ranked team in the region, while Kellner and Raich start the season at No. 9.
MSU (0-2) is coming off a pair of losses last weekend at Louisville. They lost to the host school, 7-0, and fell to Bowling Green, 6-1.
Doubles play at the Huntington Tennis Club will start promptly at 2:00 p.m., followed by singles play approximately one hour later.
