HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick announced a home-and-home football series with Big Ten member Purdue Thursday.
The Boilermakers with host the Thundering Herd on September 29, 2012 and make a return trip to Huntington on September 16, 2017.
"We are excited to have a Big Ten team coming to Huntington," Hamrick said. "This series goes along with our scheduling philosophy and that is to schedule on a home and home basis with automatic qualifying BCS conference schools. This is also an excellent series for our fans with Purdue, a great Big Ten venue, being an easy drive from Huntington."
Purdue will become the first Big Ten opponent to visit Huntington when it does so in 2017.
The two schools have never met in football, however there are coaching ties. Purdue defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo was an assistant at Marshall from 2001-2003 and Marshall offensive coordinator Bill Legg coached at Purdue from 2003-2007.
