Women's Golf Slips in Second Round at Zippy Invite

FAIRLAWN, Ohio - Marshall women's golf stood in second place after the opening round of the Third Annual Zippy Invite at Rosemount Country Club on Monday afternoon, however the Herd was unable to keep pace as it dropped to eighth place following the second round of 18 holes.
The Thundering Herd recorded a 319 in the first round of action, led by the play of Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio). Ginger shot a 77, with Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) close behind carding a 79.
MU ran out of gas in the second round, recording a 337 for a two round total of 656, two strokes behind seventh place California.
Harper and Ginger each sit tied for 22nd, after shooting an 83 and 85, respectively.
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) improved three strokes in her first tournament action of the fall. DiDomenico (86-83=169) and Elin Anderson (Stockholm, Sweden) (81-88=169) each carded a 169 on the day.
Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) rounded out the lineup with a 168 (82-86=168) for the opening 36 holes.
Host Akron enjoys a comfortable lead at the end of day one, sitting atop of the 12 team event with a 622 (314-308=622). Grand Valley State grabbed second with a 636, behind the play of Sarah Hoffman, the tournament leader going into day two. Hoffman shot a 73 in round two to bring her total to 149 (76-73=149).
Tournament play continues tomorrow with the final 18 holes which are schedule for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
