Women's Golf Posts Its Lowest Round of the Season

GULF SHORES, Ala.- Marshall University women's golf's Elin Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) each shot collegiate career-lows in the opening round of the UAB Fall Beach Blast, as the Herd posted a 301, its lowest score of the season at the Peninsula Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
Andersson shot a 74, cutting two strokes off her career-low 76 from the Morehead State Tri-Match earlier this season. Thompson's 75 sliced one stroke off her low of 76 shot at the Lady Bison Fall Classic.
Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) led the Thundering Herd with a 72 in the opening round and is tied for second behind only Ali Lucas of Louisiana at Monroe, who carded a 70.
Memphis leads the eight team field after the opening 18-holes, shooting a 292, while the Herd and Louisiana at Monroe are tied for second and hold a four stroke lead on Belmont (305).
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) posted an 80, in only her third round of play on season.
Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) rounded out the lineup with an 87 on the afternoon.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round of action. The Herd tees off at 8 a.m.
