Volleyball Hosts Tulsa and SMU For Dig Pink Weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team hosts a pair of matches over the weekend, beginning with Conference USA leader Tulsa on Friday inside the Cam Henderson Center. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. The Herd will then take the court against the SMU Mustangs on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Dig For the Cure: The volleyball team will be auctioning off pink game jerseys with proceeds being donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. MU uniforms can be bid on at a designated booth in the Henderson Center during both weekend matches. After the weekend, uniforms will be available for bidding online for a week at HerdZone.com. Minimum bids start at $50.

Friday:
$1 admission if wearing pink, women's basketball players will be signing autographs.
Sunday: $1 admission if wearing pink, football players will be signing autographs.

Marshall Scouting Report: A tough road trip to El Paso, Texas last week brought the Herd to an even 9-9 record on the year and 3-3 in league play. MU dropped Friday night's match with UTEP, 3-0, and lost again on Saturday by a 3-1 score.

Elizabeth Herman and Cameron Yoho have been the players to watch on the offensive side of the ball for the Herd in 2010. Herman is averaging 3.81 kills/set in C-USA games, while Yoho has connected 2.71 spikes/set in league play.

Player to Watch: Dorothy Rahal, L - The true freshman is averaging a team-best 3.33 digs/set against conference opponents.

Home Sweet Home: Marshall looks to rebound against Tulsa and SMU inside the friendly confines of the Henderson Center, where the Herd is 7-1 (3-0 C-USA) on the season. Since Mitch Jacobs took the reigns as head coach in 2002, MU owns a 71-17 record at home.

Milestones Approaching: Seniors Elizabeth Fleming and Elizabeth Herman continue to climb towards impressive career milestones. Fleming sits at 4,676 career assists and could be just the third Marshall player in school history to amass more than 5,000 career helpers. She is also in reach of 1,000 career digs, sitting at 753 entering the weekend.

Herman has connected for 895 kills during her time in Huntington and is closing in on 1,000 for her career.

Tulsa Scouting Report: TU sits atop the league standings, owning a perfect 7-0 conference record and 17-2 overall and have won 16-consecutive matches. Outside hitter Tyler Henderson is one of the top attackers in the country. The sophomore and reigning C-USA Player of the Year in 2009 leads all Division I schools in kills/set (6.69) and points/set (7.29).

Player to Watch: Jordan Clampitt, S - Leads the nation in assists/set at 13.25 along with averaging 2.25 digs/set on the year.

SMU Scouting Report: The Mustangs are tied for second with Rice in conference with a 6-1 record, the lone loss coming to Tulsa last week. Overall, SMU boasts a 14-4 record, winning seven of its last eight matches. SMU swept a two-match series against Memphis last weekend.

Player to Watch: Dana Powell, OH - The junior outside hitter tops SMU with 3.33 kills/set and points with 264. She is also averaging 3.49 digs/frame on the season.
