Women's Soccer Takes Rice to Double-Overtime

HOUSTON, Texas- Marshall women's soccer's Lexa Hughes (Everett, Wash.) grabbed seven saves as the Herd played 110 minutes to a scoreless tie against first-place Rice in Friday night's Conference USA match at Rice Soccer and Track Stadium.
The Thundering Herd (4-7-3, 2-4-1 C-USA) snapped a three-game losing streak, while Rice (8-5-2, 5-0-2 C-USA) has tied back-to-back matches.
The Owls had a chance to put the Herd away with under a minute left in the first overtime, when Korey Taylor jumped ahead of the Marshall defense and rocketed a shot that sailed just wide of the MU goal.
Rice outshot the Herd 7-1 in the two overtimes and 23-8 in the contest.
Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa.) recorded a team-high three shots and tallied the Thundering Herd's only shot on net.
The Herd returns to action on Sunday for its final road match of the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. against Houston.
