ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Marshall University men's soccer team plays its fourth opponent from the Big South Conference as the Thundering Herd is at Winthrop Saturday afternoon for its last non-conference match of the season.
The Herd (8-4-4, 3-3-1 C-USA) finishes up its non-conference slate with the Eagles who post a 4-9-1 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark. The Herd has a non-conference record of 5-1-3.
Including preseason, Winthrop is the fifth team from the Big South on Marshall's schedule. The Herd defeated Gardner-Webb in a friendly 2-1, beat VMI and Radford both by the score of 3-1, and tied Liberty 1-1.
MU, sitting in fifth place in the C-USA standings with ten points, controls its own destiny as it looks to qualify for the six-team conference tournament hosted by Memphis. The Herd wraps up the regular-season with UAB which has six conference points and two remaining C-USA contests. A Blazer loss to UCF on Friday automatically qualifies the Herd for tournament action. If UAB ties or defeats UCF, a win or a tie against the Blazers on Wednesday, Nov.3 in Birmingham also secures a Marshall post-season berth.
The match with Winthrop is set for 1 p.m. at Eagle Field.
