BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Marshall women's soccer held UAB scoreless for 95 minutes but it wasn't enough to earn the victory as the Thundering Herd fell 1-0 in overtime to the Blazers on Friday night's Conference USA match at West Campus Field.

With the loss the Herd sits at 4-6-2, 2-3-0, C-USA, while UAB improves to 6-6-1, 6-4-2 C-USA.

For the second-consecutive year, the Thundering Herd went into overtime with the Blazers. Last season a double-overtime match ended in a 1-0 MU victory, however, Friday's matchup would not end with such luck.

UAB came out of the gates blazing, as it fired eight shots in the opening stanza, compared to the Herd, who's only shot in the first half came from Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) in the 38th minute.

Marshall once again brought its more aggressive play for the second half, as it tallied 11 shots, three corners and seven fouls in the second 45 minutes of action.

"Both teams played well and had plenty of chances to put one away in regulation," head coach Kevin Long stated.

It took the Blazers just 5:13 into overtime to connect for the game-winner. Tiffini Turpin notched her third goal of the season past Lexa Hughes (Everett, Wash.) and into the opposite side post.

"UAB was able to capitalize during the first overtime. We walk away from this one a bit frustrated that we were dangerous and played well defensively and didn't leave with a win," Long continued. "We hope that our efforts will translate to a victory on Sunday against Memphis."

Goalkeepers Hughes and Kate Blankenship each tallied three saves on the night.

Duncan and Turpin each registered a game-high four shots on the match, placing two apiece on goal.

The Thundering Herd moves on to Memphis seeking its first-ever win against Memphis and looking to jump back to .500 in C-USA.
