Women's Soccer Earns Second Straight Conference USA Honor

IRVING, Texas-Marshall University women's soccer tallied its second-consecutive award as Lexa Hughes (Everett, Wash.) earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The freshman picked up her fourth shutout of the season in a 1-0 double-overtime victory against East Carolina to help the Thundering Herd to its first-ever Conference USA tournament berth. Hughes snagged two diving stops to keep the Pirates scoreless through 105:43 of play. She finished the contest with six saves.

The Washington native, has made all 11 of her appearances in conference play, to conclude the regular season in first place in C-USA in saves per game and second in save percentage (.857).

The award is her first as a member of the Thundering Herd.

Marshall opens the C-USA tournament against Houston on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the UCF Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
