HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University softball team (7-2) heads to Charlotte, N.C., to face Boston U., Seton Hall and tournament-host UNC Charlotte at the UNC Charlotte Green & White Tournament. Competition begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with a faceoff against BU.

The Thundering Herd will face two teams who have not played this season in Seton Hall (0-0) and Boston (0-0). Charlotte is on a 6-0 tear, with four of the wins coming in home contests. In 2009, BU finished the season with a 43-18 record and SHU went 24-31-1.

The tournament is the final road swing for the Herd before it opens conference play on the road at UTEP on March 14th.

Marshall returns to action after going 3-2 at the Florida Lipton Tournament last week against a tough field that included NCAA participant Campbell, No. 3 Florida, conference foe ECU and Big 12 powerhouse Kansas.

Melanie Stoehr and Jazmine Valle led the Herd at the plate over the weekend, with Stoehr tops in batting average (.538), hits (7), slugging percentage (.846) and on-base percentage (.647). Valle was hitting at an impressive .417 clip and notched a team-high five RBI.

On the bases, the Herd has had a majestic 30-32 tally of stolen bases. Jessica Hughes and Ashley Gue each have eight, while Taylor Thompson is right behind with seven. This season, MU opponents are just 5-6 in the category.

The MU pitching staff is led by Katie Murphree (5-1) who taps in with a 3.05 ERA in 39.0 innings of work. Murphree has struck out a club-best 29 opponents. Caitlyn Jackson (2-1) and Rachel Rillo (0-0) continue to add depth for the Herd in the circle, as Jackson has seen 18.0 innings and Rillo 5.2 innings.
