Marshall Softball Opens C-USA Play in El Paso

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University softball team will trek to the border to play Conference USA's current wins leader UTEP on Saturday in a doubleheader that is slated to begin at 5 p.m. EST. The Herd will then close the trip with a single contest at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Thundering Herd (14-7) swept the Miners (15-8) last season in a three-game series at Dot Hicks Field.

At the dish, Alianna Telles leads the Herd with a team-best .377 batting average, 16 runs scored, 26 hits, eight doubles, 20 RBI and a .449 on-base percentage. In the Herd's 6-4 loss on Tuesday against Valparaiso, the sophomore went 3-for-4 and tallied two doubles, two RBI and one run scored.

The Herd will look to Katie Murphree (8-4) and Caitlyn Jackson (3-3) in the circle, as Murphree has a bullpen-best 2.79 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 77.2 innings of work.

UTEP's leading pitcher, Stacie Townsend, will provide the Miners with needed expertise in the circle entering C-USA play. Townsend (13-5) has a team-best 2.06 ERA on a club that boasts a 3.03 ERA overall.
