HUNTINGTON, W.Va .- The Marshall University women's soccer team recently held a benefit "Kicks for Haiti" soccer tournament which was hosted by the Marshall Campus Recreation Center.

The 12-team tournament took place on the recreation center turf field. Each team was guaranteed three games, with the possibility of more coming with the advancement in the championship bracket.

Each player donated five dollars to participate in the tournament, which was able to raise $295. The money will be donated to the Doctors Without Borders Haiti relief efforts.

"Our team expressed our concerns for the country of Haiti after the earthquakes hit and we really wanted to do something to help out," sophomore Freya Holdaway (Llandrindod Wells, Wales) said. "We came up with the idea of a benefit soccer tournament where people could come out to play a sport loved as much by us as it is by the people of Haiti. It was a huge success and we can only hope the money goes a long way."
