IRVIN, Texas - Michaela Kissell of the Marshall University women's tennis team has been selected to the Conference USA All-Academic team, as announced by league officials Monday afternoon.

"I try to do my best no matter what I am working at," Kissell said. "Whether it's on the court or in the classroom I try my hardest, and it has paid off."

Kissell's dedication and determination has guided her to a 3.70 GPA as a finance major. She was named to the Conference USA Commissioners Honor Roll, along with Marshall's Honor Roll and Dean's List for the fall semester.

On the court, the Hostetter, Pa., native has had one of the most successful seasons in Marshall tennis history. The junior currently owns a national ranking of No. 41 with an 18-4 singles record.

In the fall, Kissell was the first player in program history to win a match at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships as she topped No. 9 Jospia Bek of Clemson. Kissell and freshman Dominika Zaprazna then captured the doubles championship at the Atlantic Regional, earning a birth into the NCAA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships where the duo reached the quarterfinals.

Jenny Cape (UAB), Julie Chao (Rice), Jessica Cook (East Carolina), Rebekka Hanle (Rice) and Rebecca Row (Tulsa) join Kissell on the C-USA All-Academic Team.

Kissell and No. 57 Marshall charges into the Conference USA tournament this weekend on a three match winning streak as the Herd looks to capture its first ever C-USA title. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Tulsa, April 22-25.
