HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University men's soccer head coach Bob Gray has announced the schedule for the 2010 campaign, which includes eight games to be played at Sam Hood Field and nine matches on the road.

"We are looking forward to the season," Gray said. "We have a well-balanced schedule with some tough non-conference games before we get into Conference USA action. The key for us is getting off to a good start in the non-conference. We look to go undefeated at home in C-USA and be competitive on the road."

After exhibition matches with Gardner-Webb and the University of Charleston, the Thundering Herd opens the season on Sept. 1 at home under the lights when MU hosts the Xavier Musketeers.

From its opening match on the 1st, through its match on Sept. 20th at East Tennessee State, the Herd has a span of eight matches in 19 days.

As it did last year, MU opens Conference USA competition on the road. Marshall travels to Memphis on Saturday, Sept. 20, for a 7 p.m. battle with the Tigers. The Herd defeated Memphis 2-1 last season in Huntington.

C-USA home action begins on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. when the UCF Knights invade Huntington. The Herd will look for revenge as the Knights handed MU one of its two conference losses in 2009.

Conference home matches include UCF, FIU, Kentucky and South Carolina, while Marshall travels to Memphis, SMU, Tulsa and UAB for its four other conference contests.

The C-USA conference tournament is scheduled for November 12-14. The winner of the regular season has the privilege of hosting the four team tournament.

With a 6-2 league record in '09, and its core group of players returning from its run to the title match last season, the Thundering Herd will be a pre-season favorite to win Conference USA in 2010.
