BATAVIA, Ohio - Marshall women's golfer Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) shot a team-low 77 on Tuesday afternoon in the second day of the Cincinnati Fall Classic at Elks Run Golf Club.
Florida International shot its lowest round of the tournament, a 287 to solidify the victory with a two day total of 889 (307-295-287=889). The Golden Panthers had three players finish in the top-10. Runner-up Toledo shot a 297 on day two but it wasn't enough to catch FIU. The Rockets carded a 900 (304-299-297=900) for the tournament.
The Thundering Herd dropped one spot to 13th in the 16 team field after carding a 323 in the final round (322-328-323=973).
"We stayed very consistent through all three rounds," head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey stated. "But we have plenty of room for improvement."
Ginger moved up one spot from day one to 18-over-par (76-81-77=234). Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) finished two strokes behind Ginger with a 54 hole total of 236 (73-84-79=236).
Elin Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden) registered her lowest-round of the tournament on day two, shooting an 82 (86-83-82=251).
Rachel Halloran (Leawood, Kan.) and Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) concluded the tournament within three strokes of each other, with a 258 (89-84-85=258) and a 261 (87-80-94=261), respectively.
Cincinnati's Bambee Dela Paz carded her second 71 of the Classic to slide past FIU's Cristina Marin to finish at one-over-par and earn the tournament medal.
MU returns to tournament action on Oct. 25th and 26th for the Lady Tiger Invitational.
