HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - For the second-straight night, the Marshall University volleyball team swept the UCF Knights, 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-15) on Friday night in Conference USA action at the Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd now sits at 8-6, 2-0 C-USA, with UCF dropping to 7-7, 0-2 in conference.

"It feels great to be 2-0 in league play," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "I was proud of the way we finished in games one and two. I thought UCF did some great things to put us in difficult situations."

MU used a balanced offensive attack, with five players registering seven-or-more kills on the evening. Leading the charge was junior Cameron Yoho who slammed home 11 kills and added trio of digs and block assists to her stat line.

Senior Elizabeth Herman was next in the box score with nine kills, while freshman Sacha Byous-McConnell, junior Kelley Bugler and senior Elizabeth Fleming all recorded seven spikes for the Herd.

"We needed to go through the middle and we did that well tonight," Jacobs said. Sacha had a strong game and Cameron started slow, but really produced at the end for us. Kelley did a great job off the bench and we were able to show our depth tonight."

Fleming was close to recording her second career triple-double, as the South Bend, Ind., native added a match-best 36 assists and seven digs to her seven kill total.

Defensively, Dorothy Rahal had another strong performance with 14 digs, while fellow freshman Laura Der topped the team with 16 digs of her own.

The first two frames featured a total of 20 ties and seven lead changes, with the Herd coming out with two-point victories in each set.

The Herd utilized the momentum from the first two frames into what turned out to be the last stanza of the night, with MU winning 25-15.

MU held the UCF offense to just a .057 (25K-19E-105TA) hitting clip and tallied nine total team blocks in the win.

"Our ball control was the key factor tonight as we won the passing game," Jacobs said. "Being able to pass and side out is the name of the game. When we did serve it in we were pretty tough and gave our block time to set up."

Marshall is off until Oct. 1 with a trip to play the Memphis Tigers at 8 p.m. EST.
