Skokie, Ill. - The Thundering Herd traveled to Skokie, Illinois to take part in the 15th Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern University at Evanston Golf Club. In Marshall's final meet of the fall the Herd currently are tied for 12th place within the 17-team field, yet senior Bosten Miller is tied for second place overall with an opening round 67 (-3).
Miller and The Herd look to stay in the hunt in round two and three against the toughest field Marshall has seen all year. Other teams competing in the tournament include Golfweek's preseason No. 2 team UCLA and sophomore Bruin Patrick Cantlay, the world's No. 1 ranked amateur player, as well as No. 3 Arkansas, which has won its first two tournaments of the 2011-12 year.
Several Big Ten teams are included in the field of play as well. Indiana, Michigan, Penn State, and Purdue all look to disrupt the hosting Wildcats. Completing the field is Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Harvard, Idaho, Loyola (Chicago), Marquette, and Pepperdine.
Nathan Kerns followed Miller's total with a opening round 72 (+2) on the par-70, 6,793-yard course. Brian Anania came in next for The Herd with 73 strokes through the opening 18 holes, while Carson Schambach tallied 79 shots. Jeremy Rogers posted an 82.
Round two was suspended due to darkness Sunday evening and will resume Monday morning. Following the second round, players will continue in the pairings they started with throughout the remainder of the day.
