Schiffbauer Impressive at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Senior runner Matt Schiffbauer inspired the Thundering Herd cross country team to a 25th place finish out of 29 teams by finishing sixth overall in a field of 240 competitors at this weekend's Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.
The senior ran the men's 8k Gold event in 24:11.23, finishing 131 spots ahead of the next closest Herd runner - Ryan Bowser - who ended in 137th place with a time of 25:56.08. David Caldwell, Caleb Bowen, and Chris Cole were the next three racers to finish for Marshall as the team ended the event with 592 points. Purdue University won the event with a score of 113, while the University of South Florida brought up the rear with a score of 836.
In the women's 5k Blue race, the Herd was paced by Leslie Thomas and her 27th place time of 18:45.08. Kelley Mortakis was second for the squad with a time of 19:07.56 that was good enough for 48th place in the 258 person field. Marshall finished in the dead center at 16th out of 32 teams with 451 points, while Missouri State won the event with 38 points.
The Herd will now look forward to its next meet, which is set to take place on October 15th at the Evansville Invitational.
