PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The Cross Country teams of Marshall University will head to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Cross Country Course this Saturday, November 12, for the 2011 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Princess Anne, Maryland.

Hosted by the UMES Hawks, the regional event will feature a men's 10k race on Saturday at noon and a women's 6k race later that same day at 1:15 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of both events at 3:00 p.m., and will present the meet's top individuals and teams with honors.

Amongst those looking to be included in the awards ceremony will be Marshall's senior runner Matt Schiffbauer, who has paced the Herd at a majority of its meets this season. Two weekends ago, Schiffbauer finished 6th at the Conference USA Championships, while the men's team placed 5th overall.

For the women, junior Leslie Thomas has tended to finish the highest, as she did two weekends ago with a 24th place run at the conference meet. The ladies, though, will certainly be hoping to reverse their team's overall finishing spot, as it has finished in the bottom two at each of its last two meets.

The race course is situated in the northeast corner of the UMES Campus and encompasses the intramural soccer fields, golf range, and the University Agricultural Science Farm. The championship level course has 15-meter wide trails of grass that cut through flat terrain, cornfields, gravel-dirt roads, and a few paved-road crossings. The starting and finish areas are on intramural soccer fields, and are over 100 meters wide so as to easily accommodate a large number of competitors. Admission to the event is free, but parking will cost $10 per vehicle. Directions, an hourly schedule, and more detailed information can be found by viewing the Official Participant Manual of the 2011 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.

The Marshall women's team will be one of 32 squads at the meet, while the men's team is one of 30. Following the conclusion of the event, the meet's top five individual men's and women's finishers, and the first-place men's and women's teams will advance to the 2011 NCAA Championships in Terra Haute, Indiana, on November 21.
