Men's Soccer Splits with Shawnee State and Rio Grande

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - The Marshall University men's soccer team split a pair matches with Shawnee State and Rio Grande on the opening weekend of the 2011 spring schedule on Saturday afternoon.

The Thundering Herd faced Shawnee State in the afternoon's first contest and found the back of the net early and often as MU defeated SSU 4-0.

Anthony Virgara was the first Herd player to score, followed by Tom Jackson, Diego Ayala and Carl Munday. MU's back line held strong, keeping the Bears off the scoreboard.

In the second match, the Herd was outscored 3-1 by Rio Grande as Zach Hunter scored the lone goal for the Herd.

Marshall is back in action next weekend in Charleston, W.Va., as MU takes on WVU Tech and WV Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
