HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Conference USA released its preseason All-Conference team this past Wednesday, and amongst its members was Marshall University goalkeeper Daniel Withrow.
Withrow, a junior from Rochester Hills, Mich., played every minute in goal for the Thundering Herd last season, recording 65 saves and five shutout wins. The reigning C-USA Defender of the Year, Withrow was the only member of the Herd soccer team selected for this preseason honor.
C-USA also conducted a preseason poll amongst its coaches, and Marshall finished ranked seventh out of the nine teams. Southern Methodist University took top honors with five first place votes, while Central Florida (2 votes), Tulsa (1), and South Carolina (1) round out the top four. Kentucky, UAB, Marshall, Florida International, and Memphis complete the remaining five.
All nine C-USA teams will kick off their 2011 seasons on the weekend of Friday, Aug. 26, with Marshall scheduled to play at Wright State at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Herd's first C-USA game is not until Sept. 23, at Florida International.
