Simpsonville, Ky. - Marshall University's men's golf team finished day one of the Cardinal Invitational Monday with a total team score of 295 strokes. The previously assigned 54-hole tournament held at The Cardinal Club was reduced to 36 holes following heavy rains both Sunday evening and Monday morning. The Herd is currently tied for ninth place trailing three teams in fifth place who hold a one stroke advantage after 18 holes, and the leading University of Alabama, Little Rock by 12 strokes.
Senior Bosten Miller (Charleston, W.Va./Capital HS) continues to shoot low for MU, posting another consecutive round at or under par. Miller's two-under-par, 70, marks his seventh straight round without going over par for a course and places him tied for eighth among all 96 competitors. Jeremy Rogers (Buckhannon, W.Va.) came in second for Marshall with an overall score of 74, while Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane HS) recorded 75 strokes. Nathan Kerns (Ironton, Ohio/Ironton HS) and Tas Sipowski (Jupiter, Fla.) each fired a four-over-par, 76.
MU will tee off at fixed times on day two, as The Herd seek to climb back into the 18-team race for the final 18 holes.
