Herd Loses 1-0 Overtime Decision to East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- For the third time this season, the Marshall women's soccer team fell in overtime as East Carolina's Chrissy Gratz broke a scoreless tie with a golden goal in the 94th minute Thursday night at the ECU Soccer Stadium.

Marshall ended its regular season with an overall record of 7-11-1 (3-7-1 Conference USA). East Carolina won its second straight contest and improved to 10-6-3 (6-2-3 C-USA).

Senior forward Gratz notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season when she found the net less than four minutes into the first overtime period. Freshman midfielder Caty Butler was credited with the assist.

Marshall's offense took 17 shots, including five on goal. Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Kerns faced 17 total shots from East Carolina's offense and made seven saves.

The Thundering Herd's attacking third was led by Kelly Culicerto and Erin Simmons who registered five shots apiece. Lizzy Lemons took three shots off the Marshall bench.

Marshall senior Sarah Vinson, who played in the 76th match of her career, joined Angela DeSumma for the Herd's all-time lead in that category.
