WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Marshall's No. 66 ranked women's tennis team will travel to Purdue University this weekend for two matches against Wichita State and Purdue.
The Thundering Herd will see its first round of action on Saturday, when it faces a 4-1 Wichita State team that enters the match having just defeated No. 72 ranked Missouri last weekend. The Shockers lone loss of the season - a narrow 4-3 defeat - was against Oklahoma State on January 28. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
Following Saturday's match, the Herd will battle Purdue in a Sunday showdown of nationally-ranked squads. The Boilermakers are ranked No. 41 in the most recent ITA rankings, and boast a 4-1 record. Aside from home-court advantage, Purdue will also be carrying the momentum it's gained from reeling off three straight victories. The first of those was a 6-1 win over the same Kentucky team that defeated Marshall 5-2 earlier this spring.
The Herd, though, is coming off an impressive 7-0 sweep of Morehead State, and still boasts the No. 51 ranked doubles team of Maria Voscekova and Dominika Zaprazna. The Slovakian duo has lost just once this season, and will have its work cut out for it when it battles Purdue's potent tandem of Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt. The last time Purdue faced Marshall was all the way back in 1978, when the Boilermakers defeated the Herd 8-1. Sunday's match is slated to start at noon.
