PINEHURST, N.C.- The Thundering Herd men's golf team began its second tournament of the spring season on Saturday morning, teeing off at the prestigious Pinehurst Country Club for the 32nd time in school history.
Marshall head coach Joe Feaganes was honored before the start of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate for his 34 years of service to the event, a term which has seen him lead the Herd into the tournament for all but two of those seasons. The collective gathering of coaches recognized him not only as an ambassador for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate tournament, but also as a key promoter of college golf in his 40 years of service to the sport.
Feagane's current regime of golfers could have used some of his veteran experience through the first two rounds of this year's tournament, though, as the quintet of Bosten Miller, Brian Anania, Nathan Kerns, Tas Sipowski, and Carson Schambach were only able to manage a +35 team score of 603 through the first two rounds.
Only UNC-Greensboro trails the Herd with a +42 score of 610, while tenth-placed Belmont lies two strokes ahead of Marshall with a team score of 601. Senior Co-Captain Bosten Miller is leading Marshall in the individual category after posting round one and two scores of 72 and 73, and is tied for ninth place heading into Sunday's final 18. Tee-time for tomorrow's third and final round is set for 9:00 a.m. and can be followed at golfstat.com.
