COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Marshall University men's golf team was hoping to send retiring head coach Joe Feaganes out on a high note, but after shooting a +62 score of 630 in the first two rounds, that prospect is looking grim with 14 other teams and lousy weather hindering the Herd.
A steady rain moved through Ohio State's Scarlet Course on day one of the Robert Kepler Invitational, delaying play and forcing the opening rounds to end later than expected. Junior Nathan Kerns shot an opening round 76 to lead the Herd while tying for 23rd place. Freshman Tas Sipowski was second on the team after shooting a first round 78 to sit tied for 43rd, while Bosten Miller, Brian Anania, and Jeremy Rogers trailed the pack with respective scores of 79, 82, and 85.
With rain still falling round two teed-off and saw Marshall fail to make up any ground on its opponents. Despite shooting well early in the second, the Herd posted its second consecutive round of 315 to finish the day in 15th. Nathan Kerns and Bosten Miller shot 77s to finish tied for 26th and 44th, respectively, while Tas Sipowski's 82 saw him drop back to a tie for 59th place. Brian Anania shot a 79 to sit tied in 62nd place, and Jeremy Rogers' 82 saw him finish day one tied for 75th.
No. 36 ranked Indiana and host team Ohio State are currently tied atop the leaderboard and lead all teams after overcoming the adverse weather conditions to post +31 scores of 599. Wright State sits just two strokes ahead of the Herd in 14th after posting a +60 mark of 628. Play will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. as the golfers take the course for the final round.
