HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Thundering Herd's fall athletic calendar kicks off Saturday evening when the Marshall women's soccer team travels to Farmville, Va. for an exhibition match against the Longwood Lancers starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Marshall, which went 4-12-3 during its 2011 campaign, returns three of its top five goal-scorers. Midfielders Sarah Vinson, Alyssa Cathey, and Casey Walsh each netted two goals for the Herd last season and will again represent the core of the Marshall attack during 2012.

Head coach Kevin Long's squad defeated Longwood 6-2 in an exhibition match which kicked off last season. Returning sophomore Cece Scott and seniors Robin Waskowski and Chelsey Maiden helped the Herd to the victory by scoring four of the six goals in the 135-minute affair at Sam Hood Field.

Longwood finished last season with an overall record of 7-7-4. The Lancers peaked during the final five games of the year, going 3-1-1 over the three-week span.

The regular season for Marshall women's soccer will follow next Friday, August 17 against Ball State.
