HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After scoring her first collegiate goal and her team's first goal of the season, freshman soccer player Erin Simmons has been named Marshall Student-Athlete of the Week.

The 5-6 forward found the back of the net in the 28th minute against Ball State. Her goal put the Thundering Herd on top and helped guide Marshall to a 3-1 victory in the season-opening match.

The Gahanna, Ohio native added her first career assist later in the match as she set up junior Lizzy Lemons for the team's third and final goal of the contest.

The women's soccer team is back in action on Sunday when the Herd travels to Athens, Ohio to take on regional rival Ohio University. Marshall's next home match is Aug. 31 at Cabell Midland High School against St. Francis.
