HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Three of Marshall's finest earned a spot on the Academic All-District 2 First Team selected by CoSIDA. Seniors Ashley Gue, Alysia Hively and Andi Williamson each earned a spot on the team made up of players from Washington D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The Award is a part of the Capital One Academic All-America program, which selects 816 student-athletes each year to become part of an honorary team in their particular sports - men's football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's track and field/cross country, softball and volleyball. The procedure takes votes in two parts - district and national.
Gue is a biology major from Huntington, W.Va. with minors in chemistry and psychology and a 3.49 GPA. She sits in second place in Marshall history with 104 stolen bases. She has 27 steals this season, a number that currently ranks her No. 2 in Conference USA and puts her in a tie for No. 35 in the nation. Gue has started all 49 games for the Herd this season and has the second highest batting average on the team with a .336 mark.
Hively will graduate with a double major in exercise physiology and psychology, currently boasting a 3.89 GPA. The Clay, W.Va native leads the Herd with nine home runs this season, the fourth best total in the conference. She has delivered 23 RBIs this season and recorded 65 total bases en route to posting a .512 slugging percentage. Hively earned Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors earlier this season after hitting .417 with three runs scored, six RBIs, 12 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage in games against Radford and Southern Miss.
Williamson hails from Harts, W.Va. and is working towards a major in PE and Health Education with a current 3.69 GPA. She was named C-USA Pitcher of the Week for the third time in her career after a record-breaking performance at Ohio earlier this season in which she set school records for strikeouts in a game (16), wins in a season (27) and strikeouts in a season (300). Williamson is currently No. 2 in the NCAA (No. 1 in C-USA) with 312 strikeouts. She also ranks at the top of the conference charts in wins (27), third in opposing batting average (.187) and sixth in ERA (2.23).
The three seniors have impacted Marshall's program, both athletically and academically. They will play at Dot Hicks Field for the last time Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, leaving a legacy on and off the field.
