HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball will hold two intrasquad scrimmages scheduled for August 18 and 24.
Both matches will be played in the Cam Henderson Center. The first scrimmage will begin at 6:30 p.m., with warm-ups starting at 5:45 p.m. The second scrimmage, coined as the "Green and White Scrimmage" will start approximately at 2 p.m.
The scrimmages are open to the public, so fans are welcome to cheer on the Thundering Herd in anticipation for the upcoming season.
"The team is working really hard. I'm sure they are looking forward to getting into some game-type play, not drill-type action," said Head Coach Mitch Jacobs. "We have gotten some bumps and bruises through the first five days of preseason. We are pushing forward and trying to find our lineup for Virginia. That is our focus."
This year's team opens up on the road by playing in the Virginia Tournament. They will face Virginia on August 30, then take on Montana and James Madison on August 31.
The Herd finished last season with an 18-13 record and an 8-8 mark in Conference USA. This season looks to be promising after returning four starters plus the libero from last year's squad. Senior outside hitter Laura Der was named to the 2013 Preseason All-Conference USA team.
The Herd will host last year's Atlantic Sun Conference champions East Tennessee State to kick of their 2013 home schedule on September 10.
Marshall will host the Thunder Invitational again this year. The tournament is set for September 13-14 and will include Southern Illinois, Kent State and Eastern Kentucky.
