HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball will wrap up preseason training on Saturday afternoon by holding its annual Green and White Scrimmage.
The match will be played in the Cam Henderson Center and is set to start approximately at 2 p.m. ET. The team will take the floor for warm-ups at 1:15.
The scrimmage is open to the public, so fans are welcome to cheer on the Thundering Herd in anticipation for the upcoming season.
"We're getting through the normal bumps and bruises of camp," said Head Coach Mitch Jacobs. "The tired bodies are recovering, and I look forward to our official scrimmage. The first scrimmage showed that we are talented, but I'm hoping at the Green and White Scrimmage, they will show that they've learned a little more about effort and attitude which we've really focused on this week. Should be a lot of fun."
This year's team opens up on the road by traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to play in the Jefferson Cup. They will face Virginia on August 30 then take on Montana and James Madison on August 31.
The Herd finished last season with an 18-13 record and an 8-8 mark in Conference USA. This season looks to be promising after returning four starters plus the libero from last year's squad. Senior outside hitter Laura Der was named to the 2013 Preseason All-Conference USA team.
The Herd will host last year's Atlantic Sun Conference champions East Tennessee State to kick of their 2013 home schedule on September 10.
Marshall will host the Thunder Invitational again this year. The tournament is set for September 13-14 and will include Southern Illinois, Kent State and Eastern Kentucky. To find out more information about the Thunder Invitational, visit the Tournament Central webpage at this LINK.
