PHILADELPHIA - Marshall women's soccer took down the previously unbeaten Temple Owls with a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex.

"We're excited about this win," Head Coach Kevin Long said. "It was against a great team and this win on the road means a lot. Overall, our team is creating a ton of chances and we need start capitalizing on more of them."

Temple (4-1-0) allowed its first goal of the season to junior Myka DeMarco (Dallas), who scored off a turnover in the box in the 32nd minute. DeMarco led the Thundering Herd (3-1-1) with four shots.

Marshall peppered the Temple defense with 19 shots by nine players, including 11 in the second half. Until the 62nd minute, the Marshall defense held the Owls to one shot. Temple took only four shots in the match, the fewest allowed by the Herd since Sept. 18, 2009, when Tennessee Tech attempted three in a 3-2 Marshall victory.

Marshall keeper Lizzie Kish (3-1-1) (Boyertown, Pa.) notched her third shutout of the season, making one save.

Shauni Kerkhoff took her first loss of the season as keeper for the Owls, making eight saves.

The match also marked Long's 100th career win. Long is in his sixth season with the Herd and 15th overall.

The Herd will finish the weekend in Philadelphia, taking on the La Salle Explorers (2-1-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
