HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's soccer (6-5-4, 3-2-2) had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped by Middle Tennessee (7-7-2, 4-3-1) in its home finale on Sunday, 1-0, at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

The Thundering Herd's unbeaten streak was the longest since Marshall opened the 2009 season with a program-record seven consecutive wins. The Herd had not lost since dropping its C-USA opener against Western Kentucky, 1-0 (Sept. 27).

For the second consecutive match, the Herd fell into an early deficit. In the 19th minute, Angie Lai collected a rebound and struck it low into the back right corner of the Marshall net to put the Blue Raiders up, 1-0. The Herd looked to even things out going into the break, but couldn't put anything past MT's Kelsey Brouwer. Going into halftime, the shot chart was tied, 8-8.

Still on the hunt for an equalizer, the Herd out-shot the Blue Raiders 8-6 in the second half but was unable find the net. Brouwer ended with seven saves, while Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) made three for Marshall.

AGAINST THE BLUE RAIDERS
Marshall out-shot MT (16-14) and held the Blue Raiders to zero corner kicks (3-0).

LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by coach Kevin Long:

On the team's performance:
"We try to own a style of play that, regardless of our opponent, we can be proud of. I think maybe today we were a bit distracted with the events and emotions [of Senior Day]. We forgot to play a way that we owned, and that's a possession-oriented style. We played right into the hands of Middle Tennessee. We played very direct, and that is not our style."

THE LAST TIMEââ'¬Â¦

  • The Herd was held scoreless: Sept. 27, 2014 - vs. Western Kentucky (L, 1-0)
  • The Herd allowed one goal: Oct. 5, 2014 - at Old Dominion (T, 1-1 2OT)

THE SERIES
With the win, the Blue Raiders tied up the series with Marshall, 1-1-0. Last year, the Herd defeated MT in overtime, 2-1, in the teams' first meeting at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex (Oct. 20, 2013).
