Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --
The Marshall men's soccer team (4-7-3) took one of the best teams in the nation all the way to the wire and earned a point in a 0-0 overtime draw against the No. 7 Charlotte 49ers (10-2-1) after 110 minutes of play at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
AGAINST THE 49ers
The Herd went into its fifth extra time period of the season after two intense halves of soccer. The Herd started out strong, both controlling and striking ball. In the first period, Marshall was able to record two shots on goal and four corner kicks. Charlotte started to respond in the second half, striking a total of four balls on goal.
Marshall's best chances came in overtime from the feet of sophomore midfielder Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario). Jodah, who has three match winners to his name this season, forced Charlotte goalkeeper Austin Pack into two saves from shots in the box.
Overall, both teams earned plenty of chances, as the game finished with a total of 27 shots. The Herd earned four shots on goal to Charlotte's three.
The Herd goalkeeper, junior Bijan Gloston (Clarksville, TN), came up big for the Herd, with three saves. Gloston's save tally included a one-on-one save against the speedy Monbo Bakar early in the first half.
THE GRAY AREA
Marshall coach Bob Gray on Charlotte 49er's match:
"We were able to show some character and come back tonight and we'll take the point although we'd like to have three"
"Every team in this conference can beat you and we proved that tonight, because on paper they should've probably dominated us. On the contrary I loved the way we played and thought we had the better chance"
"This game was a lot like South Carolina, we played tough and just took our chances when we could and today we almost got the same result."
