Lagodich Takes Lead on Hummingbird Intercollegiate Day 1

CASHIERS, N.C. - Marshall men's golfer Logan Lagodich (Canton, Ohio) leads a field of 75 individuals at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate after matching his career-low round of 4-under-par 67 on the first day of action at Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Lagodich sits in a tie for first with Wehman Hopke of Furman going into the final round on Sunday. He shot the most birdies of any golfer at the event (8) and tied for the best par-4 average (3.73). As a team, the Thundering Herd carded even 284 on the first day of play, placing third, and is seven strokes ahead of Stritch (7-over 291). Marshall had the second-best average of the field on par-4 holes at 4.02, and had the third-most birdies as a team (20).
Also of note: freshman Alex Weiss (Pickerington, Ohio) was one of eight players to shoot an eagle on Day 1, sinking on hole No. 14. He and teammate Clark Robinson (South Windsor, Conn.) are tied for 17th at 1-over 72.
ON THE LEADERBOARD
In the lead are Clemson and Furman, sitting six and five strokes ahead of the Herd, respectively. Clemson shot 6-under 278 while Furman posted 5-under 279.
