Marshall game captains versus Rice, as chosen by Coach Doc Holliday and his staff, are Offense: Rakeem Cato, QB; Chris Jasperse, C; Defense: James Rouse, DT; Corey Tindal, CB. Cato and Jasperse share the team-high with six game captaincies this season. Rouse has five.



The Herd defense's "tribute" to injured linebacker Evan McKelvey has senior tackle James Rouse - who usually wears No. 11 - wearing McKelvey's No. 31 today versus Rice. McKelvey suffered a season-ending knee injury in the win at Old Dominion on Oct. 4.

Senior C Chris Jasperse made his team-leading 49th career start (every game he's played at MU), tied for most among active offensive linemen in FBS. The Marshall record for starts - as an FBS program (1953-81 and 1997-present) -- is 52 by OT Steve Sciullo (1999-2002). Stat includes players on offense, defense; no specialists.

WR Tommy Shuler first catch extend his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 37 (streak started in 2011 Beef O Brady's Bowl); ranks tied for 10th-longest active streak in FBS.

WR Tommy Shuler has three catches (5:00 first quarter), tying him with Darius Watts (272) for No. 2 on Herd career list. (Josh Davis, 306 from 2001-04, is No. 1.)

QB Rakeem Cato's TD pass (12:29 second) moves his FBS record for consecutive games with a TD to 42. The only player in NCAA history with a longer streak is Division II record-holder: 46 games - Mike Reilly, Central Washington, 2005-08 (Division II record). FCS record-holder Dominic Randolph, Holy Cross, 2006-09 also was 42.

Cato has 115 career TD passes, tying Chad Pennington's official Marshall record.

WR Tommy Shuler (274 catches, five today) has passed Vincent Marshall (272 at Houston, 2003-06) for No. 6 in C-USA career history. No. 5 is Emmanuel Sanders, SMU (2006-09) with 285.

Freshman WR Hyleck Foster's TD catch - his first college TD -- makes him the 15th player to score a TD for the Herd this season.



RB Devon Johnson has eight 100-yard rushing games, the Herd major college record. The overall school record for 100-yard games in one season is 10, set by Chris Parker three times (1993, '94, '95).



RB Devon Johnson has moved into No. 6 spot in MU single-season rushing, with 1,315 yards. No. 5 is Ron Darby, 1,506 yards, in 1987.

Rakeem Cato's TD pass to Eric Frohnapfel with 9:29 left in third quarter is the 116th of his Herd career, breaking Chad Pennington's school career record.

PK Justin Haig's 5 PATs today give him 200 in his Herd career. The school record is 211 by Tim Openlander.
